Type E — 1947 through 1960 – Khaki Narrow Border Crimped
This type was the same as Type C and Type D except the khaki color was a
definite dark green rather than a pale olive green or tan khaki of
previous issues. Also, the material reverted back to a heavier twill
used with Type C. Generally, if the green color is questionable, it is
pale olive green and is Type C. However, one needs to be careful before
making the final determination based on design or other criteria such as
the glue-like stiffening coating on the back of all mint Type E merit
badges. There is some confusion about the term khaki but it is most
widely used in describing this type.
